The 18 hole championship disc golf course first opened Aug. 7th 2011 and features several different pin placements per hole which create a variety of shots making the course a challenge for players of all skill levels. Riverfront Park sits along the Colorado River just south of Fruita off Highway 340 near Snooks Bottom Open Space. Birdie Disc Golf worked with the Fruita Parks Advisory Committee and the Park Department to develop the budgeting, planning and developing of the Riverfront Park disc golf course. The 2007 PDGA Election Results (PDF) were announced today and John Bird was elected PDGA State Coordinator for Colorado. As coordinator, Bird will work with PDGA tournament directors on event administration and serve as liason to the PDGA.

John Bird is tournament director for the biggest disc golf event in Colorado for 2007, the 5th Annual High Plains Challenge in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Disc golfers from around the country will converge at the Optimist Disc Golf Course to compete for an invitation to disc golf’s premier annual event, the United States Disc Golf Championship held in Rock Hill, SC on the famed Winthrop Gold Disc Golf Course. Over 180 players from 15 states are slated to attend the two-day event which Bird has directed for the past three years.

On behalf of Mile High Disc Golf Club of Colorado, club president John Bird presented fund raising checks with a combined total of $6397 to Kathy Underhill of Arvada Food Bank and Gordon Reusink, Director of Arvada Parks, Golf and Hospitality following the 2007 Ice Bowl at Bird’s Nest and Winter Warrior fund raising events. Bird has acted as the Mile High Ice Bowl event director for the past 4 years.

The goal of the Ice Bowl event is to raise funds for local food banks and community organizations.
